Woodstock ~ Then and Now
Yep, I remember – Peace, Love, Dope!
Actually, for people not there, it was a blip on the news wire – it was the after effect that was interesting. It became important as it became a money maker. The movie pushed it to fame!

The actually event was crowded and without enough facilities, food and water. It rained. It was muddy. But, it had music and those were the days when musicians struggled and teens scraped their allowances together to go see them. The musicians were not yet multi-millionaires. The tickets were affordable. The music was raw.
I was a continent and part of the Pacific away from Woodstock – but the legacy trickled down. It was more the end of an era, rather than the beginning of one. Spontaneity is no longer part of music – everything is highly orchestrated and expensive.
Woodstock today is known as the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts.
I would encourage you to take the I-Tour of the place – http://bethelwoodscenter.org/about/itour.aspx – the young people of 40 years ago would not be welcome in this place of money and the social elite. But, it has a Woodstock “Memorial” and “Museum”!

19% have or know someone who has chosen not to buy from the bailout companies.
AND, people expect the quality of GM and Chrysler to erode now that they are government owned.
The only thing I’m disappointed in is that anyone would ever buy from ‘Government Motors”.
Obama’s Poll Numbers Sink Like a Stone
Today’s Rasmussen Report has Obama’s approval index rating at MINUS ELEVEN – 40% strongly disapprove and 29% strongly approve.
It looks like calling police officers “STUPID” and calling an insurance scheme “health care reform” are starting to take a toll on his support.
His overall disapproval numbers have also fallen to 51% on the Rasmussen scale.
It’s about time America wakes up!
JFK, Jr ~ 10 Years Gone
It’s hard to believe that it has been 10 years since JFK, Jr died in a plane crash, caused by his own pilot error. Also killed were his wife and sister-in-law.
It’s odd, as his life had no real historical significance, that I remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when it came on the news that the plane was missing. I was in a motel room, finishing tallies from a fleece competition before I headed back to the fairgrounds. I never get near that motel that I don’t think of that morning.
Those of us old enough to remember the real thing and those who remember the iconic photo of John-John saluting during his father’s funeral procession had hopes that his would be a life lived as a replacement to his fathers. But, it was not to be.

Sarah Palin ~ QUITTER
Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska —- Quits
Like the rest of the country, I watched, stunned, as Sarah Palin meandered her way through an incoherent speech on why she wasn’t running for reelection, well, really, at the end, why she was quitting. I heard a lot of excuses, folksy analogies that were stupid and even a ‘hell, yes’ from one of her underage children. But, I still don’t know why she QUIT — and quit she did. Of course, everyone is making up reasons for her, as the cult goes into full time defense of their idol. An idol who broke one of the prime rules we were raised with – never quit, never give up, do your best and see it through.
I am baffled — I have NO idea what Sarah Palin stands for. NONE WHAT SO EVER. I do know she doesn’t stand for fulfilling her obligations. I may be the only conservative out there who listens to her and hears nothing substantial. I hear conservatives credit her for things she never said and never did. I see them getting excited about things that don’t remotely translate to leadership, foreign policy knowledge or a place in the White House. I have never heard anything with substance or intellect. She says deep things like ‘knowing when to pass the ball’ and ‘only dead fish go with the flow’ — yep, that’s intellect worth reckoning with — and, it was actually written and rehearsed for a speech.
Agreed, she has been treated badly – and, the last conservative not to be treated badly was???? Things said about the Bushes were horrendous, not to mention Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas, Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, Tony Snow, Ronald Reagan — yet they NEVER QUIT.
No, no one would ever get away with saying the same things about Sasha and Malia and Chelsea that were said about Barbara and Jenna and the Palin kids. But, that is the double standard we have been living with for a very long time in this country.
The higher the ideals you aspire to, the farther you have to fall when you don’t live up to them. Yes, there is a duplicity in how the left and the right are reported. Nothing new here. Having Sarah Palin and her family attacked might be a reason to stand up for them, it is NOT a reason to run her for the Presidency. And, now that she has proven that she can’t fulfill a term in office, why would anyone consider it???
I have to agree with Jonathan Kay’s blog entry — Sarah Palin’s resisnation speech symbolized her vacuous approach to politics. I agree completely with his assessment:
“…we still have no real idea why she is resigning. It is to build up a presidential run in 2012 — or because another skeleton is about to jump out of her closet? Or, does she genuinely want to get out of politics? It’s impossible to say. Her speech is just a jumble of conflicting, facile metaphors stitched together by people who evidently have a low estimation of the public intellect.”
What is particularly interesting to me is that I know many bright and thoughtful conservatives with whom I usually agree, who support and defend Sarah Palin for everything she does, no matter how vapid. I have politely asked each of them what they see in her. NONE OF THEM have provided a coherent answer, but have attacked me. Now the cult mantra is “if you don’t like Sarah Palin you are jealous of how beautiful she is.” They seem to miss the point that just Republicans can not get her elected and she doesn’t even have the votes of most Republicans.
No, I don’t get Sarah Palin. Feel free to give me FACTS and QUOTES, if you can.
